I think those are unintended (originally) benefits of being on Twitter that smart users have figured out how to do, but not necessarily the purpose for creating an account - you know what I mean? Nobody could see that and think Twitter was irrelevant. I think the lines are blurred - it's social but I get to see how other people in areas I'm interested in work; I make connections with people I can learn from, or who might be useful contacts.
